ancientart:

A relief from the west hall of the chapel of Ramesses I. The right portion of the relief is shown in the first photo, and the left in the second.

Ramesses I was appointed to be the successor of HaremhabHe became the first king of Dynasty 19, but was likely pretty old by this stage, thus most of his monuments are completed by his son, Seti I. The chapel which this relief is from was dedicated by Seti to Ramesses.

The MET gives the following translation of the hieroglyphs and interpretation of scenes depicted:

On the right, Ramesses, described as “maker of monuments in the Abydos nome for the lord of continuity, who satisfies the heart of Onnophris with what he has desired,” presents offerings to the Osiris symbol accompanied by Isis. On the left, Seti, described as “doer of effective things for Onnophris, caretaker of the Ennead of the Sacred Land," presents a statue of himself offering a jar of myrrh to the symbol accompanied by Horus.

In return for the offering, Osiris says to Seti: “My chosen son of my body, lord of Two Lands, Menmaatre (Seti’s throne name), my heart is happy and content because you have acted. You are my son and protector. As long as the sun exists, your name will exist. As long as the sky exists, your deeds will exist." The upper register (now lost) centered on the djed pillar, symbol of Osiris. To the right, Ramesses was shown offering a bouquet to the statue of Osiris accompanied by Isis. To the left, Seti presented offerings to the statue of Osiris accompanied by "Horus, son of Osiris.”

weird-bizarre-creepy:

An assortment of over 300 symmetrically round petrospheres have been found scattered around Costa Rica.  The spheres range in size from a few centimeters to over 2 meters (6.6 ft) in diameter, and weigh up to 16 short tons.  The spheres were discovered in the 1930s as the United Fruit Company was clearing the jungle for banana plantations . Workmen pushed them aside with bulldozers and heavy equipment, damaging some spheres. Additionally, inspired by stories of hidden gold workmen began to drill holes into the spheres and blow them open with sticks of dynamite. Several of the spheres were destroyed before authorities intervened.  Numerous myths surround the stones, such as they came from Atlantis, or that they were made as such by nature. Some local legends state that the native inhabitants had access to a potion able to soften the rock.
